Tucked away in the northern part of Malaysia, Perlis is the smallest state in Malaysia. Unsurprisingly, many people do not know that Perlis is a 💎hidden gem waiting to be discovered with its breathtaking landscapes, fascinating cultural sites, and local culinary delights. In this blog post, we'll reveal the secrets of Perlis and guide you through an unforgettable 3-day 2-night itinerary. Get ready to embark on an adventure like no other and unlock the wonders of Perlis!
After a long journey all the way to the north in Perlis, we’re pretty sure that you’ll be bitten by the hungry bug. We recommend stopping by Bang Don Daging Bakar Abi for an affordable and wholesome lunch. Do not judge a book by its cover is the best way to describe this roadside stall. It may look like an ordinary warung but a customer quoted it as “A 3-star stall with 5-star food”.
Bang Don Daging Bakar Abi is famous for its Thai-style grilled beef made using fresh 🥩meat sourced locally. Their grilled beef is grilled over coconut husks, giving it a fragrant smoky flavour. Not only that, but it’s also juicy and soft. The lady boss is a Thai Muslim. Besides the beef, her Som Tam will make you crave more.
On top of all that, there are various Thai condiments for you to pair with the grilled beef and rice. They also have free-of-charge butterfly pea water, lemongrass water and pandan water which are all also free-flow. Since it’s Muslim-owned, yes, it’s halal.
Start your 3-day 2-night tour in Perlis by visiting Perlis Snake Park. This park is a haven for reptile lovers and showcases a wide variety of snake species. It also offers interactive experiences where you can hold and interact with 🐍non-venomous snakes under the supervision of trained staff. This hands-on experience provides a unique opportunity for visitors to overcome their fears and gain a deeper appreciation for these amazing reptiles. There is also a small gallery with a cross-section of preserved snakes on display where you get to learn more about the anatomy of different types of snakes.
Now, before you squirm away at the word “snake”, we must inform you that besides snakes, there are other better-looking creatures like chickens, ponies, ducks, geese, ostrich, hedgehogs and many more. There are also lots of cats waiting to be your master. You can adopt these 🐈cats without paying any fee at all!
Besides the animals, Perlis Snake Park is also well known for its 🌻sunflowers. They are very Instagrammable, and you’ll lose track of time trying to find the perfect angles.

Explore Gua Kelam, a fascinating limestone cave located in Kaki Bukit. Marvel at its unique rock formations and intricate stalactites and stalagmites. As you walk along the walkway across the cave, you’ll notice a river underneath it. The walk is about 330m long (around 10 mins walk) and family-friendly. It is not too difficult to trek.
Aside from the natural wonders, Gua Kelam also holds historical significance. During the tin-mining boom in the early 20th century, an Englishman discovered a running river in the cave, which later served as an important transportation route for mined tin. A section of the cave was widened to allow trains to pass through, carrying tin ore from nearby mines. Today, visitors can still see remnants of the railway tracks and other mining artefacts here.
The cave will lead you to a secret garden at the end. It is an extraordinary sight that you simply cannot miss. If you want to fill your lungs with more fresh air and gawk at greenery longer, there are camping and picnic options available. You can even bathe in the small river with mini waterfalls. If those are not enough, there is even a 3D museum and Glass House, each requiring separate tickets.
