In August 2024, Traworld held a memorable 2 days 1 night team-building retreat at Villa Lot1638 in Port Dickson. With a small but dynamic team of 11, this retreat was designed to strengthen our bonds, foster collaboration, and create lasting memories outside the usual office environment. From engaging ice-breaker activities to heartfelt moments of connection, the retreat was both a professional and personal success. Below is a detailed account of our itinerary and the experiences that made this event so special.

Our team departed from our Kuala Lumpur office on Jalan Ampang around 12:30 PM, carpooling our way to Port Dickson. After a smooth and pleasant 2-hour drive, we arrived at Villa Lot1638 at 3:00 PM, ready to commence our 2D1N team-building retreat. The sunny weather and seamless journey set the stage for an enjoyable experience.

Upon arrival, we promptly checked in and selected our rooms. In an effort to foster closer bonds among colleagues, our boss thoughtfully paired us with teammates from different departments. The two male colleagues shared a room, while the eight female team members were divided into two villas, each accommodating four people.

We kicked off the retreat with an ice-breaker game designed to ease us into the day’s activities. Randomly paired, we stood back-to-back, awaiting a keyword from our boss, Vera. The keyword can either be an action or animal. On the count of three, we struck a pose and turned to face each other, aiming to match poses.

If we failed, we continued until we succeeded. The game generated much laughter as we tried to anticipate each other’s moves. Impressively, some pairs matched on the first attempt, demonstrating remarkable synchrony.

Our second game, “Splash-It-Quick,” was both energetic and exhilarating. In this challenge, two teammates faced each other with a cup of flour between them. The game master called out body parts, and we had to touch them while remaining alert for the command “Grab!” At that moment, we quickly reached for the cup, attempting to splash our opponent with the flour.

The competition was fierce, with shouts and laughter filling the room as we vied for victory as the winners from each round competed all the way until the final round. By the end of the game, everyone was covered in flour, prompting a quick clean-up before the next activity.

Armed with a bingo sheet filled with random interests, hobbies, and skills each, we set out on a mission to match these traits with our teammates. In order to find out who loved what and who could do what, we had to ask around the room and scribble down their names to the related boxes. This is of course with the ultimate goal of scoring a bingo and the fastest person with a bingo wins.

By the end, each of us came out to reveal our bingo and we’d uncovered some surprising secrets and fun facts about each other, bringing our team closer together.

We took a short break to refresh ourselves and enjoy some snacks before proceeding to our final game of the day. This game required us to download an app called “Undercover,” where we were assigned to a virtual room by entering a specific room number given by the game master. Once everyone had joined, the game master initiated the game.

Each participant received a keyword that they needed to describe, with the goal of identifying 3 impostors among the 11 of us. The twist was that the impostors were given a different keyword, and no one knew who was an impostor or a civilian. This uncertainty meant that everyone had to describe their keywords in a very general manner, carefully choosing their words to avoid suspicion while still trying to determine the identity of others. After each round, we had the opportunity to discuss and decide on one person to eliminate, continuing this process until either all impostors or civilians were eliminated.

Dinner was a simple yet satisfying affair with a spread that included curry chicken, omelette, ulam with sambal belacan, stir-fried cauliflower, watermelon, and chilled orange juice. The food was so good that many of us went back for seconds. It was a simple, yet delightful dinner with the team.

We had a special birthday surprise for our Head of Marketing, Kyle. We casually kept him engaged in conversation while some of us retrieved the cake. After the candles were blown out and the birthday song sung, we all indulged in the delicious cake.

It was time for the prize-giving ceremony and the winners of the 3 games that we played earlier, each received a prize.

For our final activity of the evening, we were asked to write notes to anyone in the team. These notes could be anything, praise, encouragement, or just a kind word. We then placed them in envelopes labelled with each person’s name. This activity was optional, but it gave us a chance to express our thoughts and feelings privately. We had until 9am, the next day to complete this small mission.

The rest of the night was ours to enjoy. Some of us headed to the pool for a swim, while others returned to the villa to shower and relax. As the night wore on, we bonded over conversations and a few drinks, making the most of our time together.
We woke up to a hearty breakfast spread that included fried mee hoon, egg and sardine sandwiches, kuih talam, kuih koci, coffee, and tea. Despite the early hour, the delicious food made it all worthwhile.

It was time to collect our “Guardian Angel” notes. These personal messages were our little souvenirs from the retreat, a reminder of the connections we strengthened over the past two days.

With the morning free, we did as we pleased. Some took advantage of the villa’s scenic surroundings for a photoshoot, while others caught up on a quick nap or began packing.

As our retreat came to an end, we gathered for group photos and videos, capturing memories of this fun-filled and productive team-building experience. After one last look at the villa, we checked out and headed back to KL, already looking forward to the next time.
The Traworld team-building retreat at Port Dickson was more than just a getaway; it was an opportunity to strengthen our relationships, discover new facets of our colleagues, and create memories that will last long after we’ve returned to the office. This retreat reminded us of the importance of collaboration, communication, and camaraderie, values that will continue to drive our success as a team. We look forward to the next retreat, knowing it will build on the bonds we’ve forged and bring our team even closer together.
