The highlight of the pop-up would probably be the large Gacha machine. With guidance by the staff, people were able to stand a chance to win a Gacha ball by stepping on 1 of the 3 pedals (with circle, triangle and rectangle icons on each of them). Upon popping the Gacha ball, you would find your own set of Gganbu marbles (turn your enemy into your partner ?).
All in all, it was a great initiative and marketing strategy by Netflix but sadly, due to people not adhering to SOP, the exhibit had to be closed down abruptly. This serves as an important reminder during the pandemic that, we should practice social distancing in public no matter what we do. Stay safe, stay strong and don’t betray your friends...
The famous transparent yellow ?oink oink can be easily spotted right above the huge signboard of “Squid Game” but of course the inside is not real money like in the drama_-lah._ Surprisingly, you can find the notes actually spinning in it, so it’s like the real deal but without anyone claiming them. For a better view of it, people might have to cross to the opposite side of the street (Hamilton Hotel).
According to the drama’s director, the flight of infinity pink stairs were designed based on Escher's Relativity. However, that’s only in the drama, the real one leading down to the station here is merely decorated with pink wallpapers and Korean text messages related to the drama. So, people can actually run up and down without a problem. Even so, the pink stair doesn’t lead directly to the main exhibit as people would still need to pass through the ticket gate and lots of stairs to reach the actual pop-up.
Mugunghwa kochi pio seumnida... ?BOOM! Once you travelled down the escalator (a few minutes away from the pink stairs), the first most noticeable thing would be the doll which many of us wouldn't want to encounter ?haha. But don’t worry as the doll is fake! (If no, with the number of people there daily, the station would have become history by now ?).
The whole set-up was made to look like some children’s playground with swings, slides, climbing bars and many more. The floor was greatly utilised to portray the games as well.
Fun Fact: Many of you know it as the Green Light, Red Light game but unbeknownst to many people, that is an inaccurate translation by Netflix. The correct translation for name of the game is “Hibiscus Flowers Have Bloomed”.
The menacing pink guards with a white triangle, square and circle printed on their masks respectively could be easily spotted around the area. The only thing different about them is that they didn’t have any firearms with them. According to the public's report, they were very friendly.
There was a small corner that exhibited some official merchandise based on items seen in the drama. Encased in the glass display were the iconic gym clothes, marbles and others. People could post a photo of the corner on Instagram or Twitter and stand a chance to win the goods! Too bad, now kenot anymore ?
