Recently, Malaysia's government has launched an International Travel Bubble to Langkawi. This is part of the government's initiative to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant throughout the country. There mainly 2 types of tourists that can benefit from this, they are tourists who wish to holiday in Langkawi and tourists who wish to tour other parts of Malaysia. As of now, tourists who wish to enter Malaysia have to go through the Langkawi Travel Bubble first.

Who Can Travel to Malaysia?

  • Individuals who have been completely vaccinated and have passed the period of 14 days from the second-dose injection or after 28 days of single-dose injection (depending on the type of vaccine) of vaccines approved by the **MOH.
  • Children under the age of 18, are allowed to travel together with guardians who are fully vaccinated.
  • All International Tourists are allowed to enter Malaysia through the Langkawi Travel Bubble either for tourism purposes (in Langkawi) or for using it to enter Malaysia for tourism purposes except for the following *countries:
    • South Africa,
    • Botswana,
    • Namibia,
    • Eswatini,
    • Lesotho
    • Zimbabwe
    • Malawi
    • Mozambique.
*Please note that this is only a temporary entry restriction, and it refers to any traveller who had been in those 8 countries in the last 14 days and not by nationality.

3 - 7 Days Stay In Langkawi

(UPDATED) The Langkawi Travel Bubble: 3 - 7 Days Stay In Langkawi

  • Movement to and from Langkawi Island must use air transport either through Kuala Lumpur / Penang (technical stop only) or directly to Langkawi Island.
  • Travellers can stay on Langkawi Island only.
  • Travellers will receive a Digital HSO (Home Surveillance Order) and will be allowed to proceed to the hotel while waiting for the test results.

Additional Testing Requirements

  • Professional RTK Antigen Test (professional swab test) must be done on day 3 and 5 in Langkawi.
  • Self Antigen Rapid Test (using home test kit) on Day 2, 4, 6 and must report test result on MySejahtera apps.
  • Rapid Test PCR or Rapid Molecular Test (the same professional swab test that travellers take upon arrival), 2 days before leaving Langkawi.
  • If a traveller is found to be symptomatic or tested positive, the responsible tour operator must report to the MOH / private screening facility that has been appointed to manage tourists to private isolation/ quarantine locations.

Over 7 Days Stay in Langkawi

  • If travellers wish to remain in Langkawi Island for more than 7 days or wish to go to the next destination either within or outside Malaysia after the 7th day, travellers must undergo the Rapid Test PCR or Rapid Molecular Test:
    • on the 7th day (if the destination is in Malaysia); or
    • 2 days before leaving Malaysia.
  • Travellers are free to travel around Malaysia after 7 days in Langkawi.
  • Tourists may choose whether to use a tour package under a tour operator registered and licensed with MOTAC or continue the holiday as a Free Independent Traveler (FIT).
