As you walk along the walkway across the cave, you’ll notice a river underneath it. The walk is about 330m long (around 10 mins walk) and family-friendly. It is not too difficult to trek.
Aside from the natural wonders, Gua Kelam also holds historical significance. During the tin-mining boom in the early 20th century, an Englishman discovered a running river in the cave, which later served as an important transportation route for mined tin. A section of the cave was widened to allow trains to pass through, carrying tin ore from nearby mines. Today, visitors can still see remnants of the railway tracks and other mining artefacts here.
The cave will lead you to a secret garden at the end. It is an extraordinary sight that you simply cannot miss. If you want to fill your lungs with more fresh air and gawk at greenery longer, there are camping and picnic options available. You can even bathe in the small river with mini waterfalls.
