It is mandatory for everyone in Malaysia, regardless of nationalities and vaccination status is required to wear a 😷mask indoors and in crowded open spaces. This includes places like libraries, shopping malls, cinemas, cafes & restaurants, hair salons, public transport, concerts, etc. When in an eatery, masks can be removed when 🍔food or ☕drinks arrive. Face masks wearing are exempted indoors if the individual is exercising, alone, eating, making speeches or performing. Mask wearing outdoors is optional and social distancing is encouraged but not compulsory as Covid-19 is still prevalent. Anyone found not adhering to this SOP is subject to fines by authorities.

Are There Any Establishments and Events That Are Still Temporarily Barred?

Yes, some establishments are still temporarily closed due to their own reasons. However, it is officially confirmed that the government has lifted the order which required establishments to be closed or only operate until a certain hour. This means that 🍻pubs, bars, concerts, etc are allowed to operate as they did before the pandemic started. (Even Billie Eilish is coming to Malaysia on her tour this August!) Establishments like convenience stores, fast food chains, restaurants, etc are allowed to open until late at night.

Now that the travel SOP has relaxed, come and discover the new Malaysia! There might be a couple of SOP to follow, and like the saying says, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. So please follow the protocols and don’t be a Karen.
