(Chinese New Year 2023) Top 10 CNY Mall Decoration in Klang Valley

The year's Chinese New Year is happening early, and all the 🎅Santa Claus in the malls in Malaysia quickly transformed into Choi San Yeh (God of Prosperity) overnight to welcome the Year of the Water Rabbit🐇. With that, other mall decorations for the Chinese New Year also followed suit. Let’s take a look at the top 10 CNY mall decorations in Klang Valley for Chinese New Year 2023 (in no particular order).

The Gardens Mall

Theme: Oriental Charm

Just like the years before, the mall decor of The Gardens Mall never disappoints. This year is a bit special as they combine western and eastern charm in this east meet west themed decorations. There are many Instagrammable backgrounds with Chinoiserie furniture and decor. We even spotted a reused chandelier from last year’s Christmas decor. Don’t forget to dress up in your best traditional Chinese outfit and join the photo contest! You’ll stand a chance to win dining vouchers from The Table by Isetan.

Additionally, there are performances like Dance of The Floral Pursuit, The Oriental Fusion Ensemble and of course, Lion Dance. You can witness these spectacular performances from 14 Jan to 5 Feb at the concourse area and south atrium.

Theme: Treasure of Teochew Heritage

This year, 1 Utama is bringing the whole Teochew village into the mall! The decor is made to look like those iconic landmarks in Chaozhou. There is even a makeshift river and the floating Guangji Bridge with boats! Then, there is the Chaoshan ancient dwelling with a Courtyard Mansion. If you look closely, you can see hand-painted floral motifs on the roofs and Feng Shui elements that make them look like real traditional buildings in Chaozhou.

On top of all that, you can experience Teochew culture through Teochew food, traditional arts & crafts, calligraphy competition, as well as cultural performances in collaboration with the Selangor and KL Teo Chew Association. Lastly, there are festive shows like drum performances, wushu and many more held from 31 Dec to 29 Jan 2023.

Suria KLCC

Suria KLCC has also transformed into an old Chinese town! There are fake rivers with boats, a bridge and a traditional Chinese house with a round dining table. On the table are foods traditionally served at the Chinese New Year reunion dinner a.k.a Tuan Yuan Fan. You can sit at the dining table and take pictures with the food replicas that look so real, you will find it hard to resist the temptation to take a bite.

After the Qing Ming-gate last year, Suria KLCC once again came up with an outdoor decoration that draws confusion from the public. To welcome the Year of Rabbit, they installed the biggest Rabbit replica in Malaysia made of gold coins (certified by the Malaysian Book of Records ok!). It all sounds impressive and unproblematic, right? However, people started pointing out that the yellow-gold rabbit resembles Pikachu. What do you think?🤔
